IWWRMP

Integrated Watershed and Water Resources Management Project (IWWRMP) is a World Bank funded five-year project (2020-2025) and the total cost of the project is USD 75.03 million. The project development objective is to improve watershed and water resources planning and enhance the functionality of water resources  infrastructure. Functionality refers to improved safety of dams and improved water distribution networks for irrigation.

The World Bank rationalizes the need of the IWWRMP, it’s funding and the need to improve Sri Lanka’s watershed and water resources, as result of Sri Lanka’s steady growth over the last decade despite persistence of key macroeconomic challenges and that Sri Lanka is ranked as the world’s second-most climate change affected country by the Global Climate Risk Index.

The Ministry established the IWWRMP as an implementation unit to oversee the project activities, with staff from government agencies. This approach was based on the success of a similar project in the past. IWWRMP's responsibilities included ensuring that project activities were carried out according to the agreed plan and budget, monitoring progress, and preparing progress reports for the World Bank, including financial reports.
